Something amazing happened tonight.

My team and I are currently on an Island in Koh Samet Thailand for our final debrief (we fly home this FRIDAY!) The year has been amazing, but i will save all those details for my next blog. The purpose of this blog is so show how huge/powerful my God is.

Sarah, Rubie, Becky, Me

Tonight, after a wonderful evening of worship together as a squad my friends Sarah, Rubie, Becky and myself headed over to 7/11 to get some late night snacks. I was the first one to head out of the store along with my teammate Becky when we noticed across the street a man and a women falling to the ground. It was obvious that they had been drinking and were a bit tipsy, but their clumsyness had cause a bit of a rucus. The girl had apprently hit her shin really really hard which caused a decent size lump to appear. She was mostly surrounded my drunk men and something told me to go check and see if she was alright. So Becky, Sarah, Rubie and I headed over to see if she was ok. I bent down to see if she was alright, and she had tears in her eyes. So, my first thought was to put my slurpie on her skin to releave some of the pain. She didnt speak much english, but i saw relief in her eyes when i placed it on her shin. Becky and Sarah immediately suggested that we pray and ask God to heal her leg... so right there in front of the drunk french men we asked the Lord to heal her.

When we had finished praying, i took off the slurpie and the lump was gone. IT WAS AWESOME! I nelt down to ask Eat (that was the girls name) if she was better and she said yes and then she looked at each one of us girls and told us each that we were a good friend.

Please pray that we run into her tomorrow, so that we can share more Jesus with her.

We serve a POWERFUL GOD!

Team Hong Kong has left Hong Kong and is now currently working their way to Cambodia.

Hey Friends and supporters. Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be fasting from the internet til the 10th of November, starting the 19th of October. Please keep me in your prayers as the Lord continues to show me areas in my life that need sharpened, and as I continue to walk in obedience to the Lord.

An update on my support is that I am currently only in need of about $1700.00. I reached the $13,800 mark, but now am trying to raise the last $1700.00 to get back money that i have had to personally pay for plain tickets, vaccinations, and travel insurance.

Also i will be returning to the states on November 21st. On that day i will have completed the World Race 08.

I was spurred to write this blog after an amazing night with my teammates in Hong Kong. We were celebrating Robby Riggs 25th birthday and our last event of the night was to go take pictures at a place called Sticky Photos. We crammed 9 of us into a small both and and took some amazing pictures. I would love to post those pictures but instead I will just put up random pictures of me and each one of my amazing teammates.

By the way Hong Kong is amazing! The people are so nice, the city is so beautiful, the weather is perfect, the ministry is fun, and the team I am with is perfecto! I truly love my brothers and sisters on my Hong Kong team. I would like to dedicate this blog to them!!!

Attention Prayer Warriors

Thank you so much for praying for our team during this time of outreach in Bangkok, Thailand. It has been vital for us to be surrounded in prayer as we have been heading into the bars in the Red Light District of Bangkok. Amazing things have been happening and I wanted to give yall an update!

Tomorrow, September 26th we will be having lunch with a girl name Jan. She is 32 years old and is the accountant for the P.P. Beer Bar. I met her 2 weeks ago, and over the course of the past 2 weeks my team and I have built quite and amazing friendship with her. Anyways, she invited us to go have lunch with her tomorrow, and she is treating! I ask that you lift us in prayer at 1:00p.m. as we meet with her. Pray that the Lord opens doors for us to share with her what we are all about!

More great news is that two of the girls we have been spending our time with in the bars, Kung and Giftsy, have decided to visit "The Well" with us on Monday September 29th at 12:00pm. Tonight, after we showed them a video of a girl at "The Well" telling her story we saw something happen with them. We saw to beautiful girls light up with hope that they might be able to escape the sex trade world. SO PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pray that nothing keeps us from getting these girls to "The Well" with us on Monday.

I also ask that you be praying for my new Thai friend Apple. She is 23 years old and works at the P.P. Beer Bar. She was the first girl I met in the Bars and my heart broke for her then and is still breaking for her now. She is a beautiful young girl (which makes her very popular) that doesn't enjoy doing what she does. I'm planning on showing her the video of the girl, at "The Well", telling her story tomorrow night. I had planned on playing pool with her tonight, and sharing the video with her but a "customer" got to her before I had the chance. Please pray for her protection, and pray that our obedience in planting the seeds in her life will spark some kind of hope in her.

Just incase you do not know what "The Well" is: It is a ministry here in Thailand that works on getting girls out of the bars and into a safe environment. They have 2 buildings and have about 60 girls working for them now. The girls who leave the bar come to "The Well" and are provided jobs (making purses, jewelry, cards), school, they are taught English, they are taught about God, and they are paid salary and hourly according to the number of people in their family.

Tonight, we get on a bus and head to Burirum... a 'feeder city' for the red light district of Bangkok. Its a place where many girls who now find themselves in the bars, spent their childhood. Over the next 5 days, we will have the opportunity to be like that one teacher you had that impacted you to strive for greater things, and to push yourself to be better than the world's expectations. We'll be hanging out with the kids in the schools, teaching English, and bringing hope to families who think that prostitution of their daughters is the only way to put food on the table.

Today was quite an interesting day. I woke up and ate my bowl of cereal 1^st thing (with my skim milk of course). I had decided not to put my name of my milk because I knew there was no way someone would drink something that they hadn't bought. I truly thought that after 8 months on the race we had learned as a team to ask before you take (we dealt with this same problem in Bolivia, month 3) Guess what? I was wrong. A couple hours later for whatever reason I found myself reaching for my milk and low and behold what was once full was now full. I'm just gonna be honest... I was pissed! See you have to understand something so that I can explain my reaction.

Every since dad died I've only had control of 2 things in my life, and that is eating right and exercising. So to have my milk taken (which by the way its important to know as well that my spending money for the month was running low) was not only an attack on the one thing I've held onto since dad's death, but also a spiritual attack. All that I learned about entitlement this year instantly went down the drain and I immediately chose to give into my selfishness and my lack of trust in God for provision for me. So after I blew off steam to my good team mates Sarah and Eli, I realized how ridiculous I was being and decided to just surrender the fact that my milk had been downed.

Funny story... tonight after I had taken a shower I went downstairs to get my water bottle and a surprise met me in the freezer... my milk was completely gone... I looked for it, and apparently someone sat it on the top of the fridge to make room and forgot to put it back... so my full milk carton was now not drinkable at all because it had been sitting out in the 90 something degree heat... hahahaha. Good thing I had surrendered it earlier in the day. Oh how fast we fall back to our former selves. I'm thankful that I serve a God who always forgives, and convicts me when I am in the wrong. I'm definitely learning a lot by living in community with 24 other people.

GRACE is the most common characteristic that I'm fighting to choose daily. It's hard to show grace when someone doesn't deserve it. Interesting though to think on how much GRACE God shows us. How can I not show GRACE when so much GRACE is given to my unworthy being?

This was a prayer that poured out of my heart on August 24^th 2008. Ever since my dad died, life has been extremely hard (extremely hard really doesn't even grasp what I've been through). The choice of coming back on the trip has been constantly doubted. Every day that slowly drags by I've wondered if this is really where God wants me to be. Was I supposed to stay home with my mother? Because I know for certain that a day does not go by without my thoughts being on my momma. My heart has been wounded and the truth is I've wanted to turn my back on God. The questions of, "Why did you let this happen", "Why did you take a beloved father, son, and daddy?", "Why when I've devoted a year to serve you non stop would you take my papa?"... the questions are endless and there are no answer in sight to put my mind and heart at ease.

I've spent 2 months not praying, not reading the Word, and not listening to the Lord (well at least trying not to listen to him). When you are mad at someone, the last thing you want to do is to spend time with them. But for some reason I ended back on this race. I sit here and think, "How did I end back here?" I left my family at home to fend for themselves to go spend 4 more months serving a God who I'm so angry with. Does it make any sense to you?

So I've been pondering why I chose to come back. And for some reason I remember when I was home I kept feeling like I was supposed to go back. Don't ask me why... because the truth is I'm not exactly sure why. I hadn't been spending time with the Lord, so to hear his voice during such a dry period of my life does not really make sense to me. Here is the dilemma I found myself in: Turn my back on the one thing in my life, God, who is the only purpose I have in my life to keep living, or to walk away from God and try to find someone or something that could fill that void. The truth is that I know there is nothing bigger or greater or more worth serving than God. Although I'm angry at him for what happened, and I don't understand why he would let my family and I go through all of this, there's nothing else that I can turn to except for Him. Satan has tried to make me get angry at him, and to stop believing that God is faithful and that he is a good father, and loving, and kind, and caring. And I almost gave into the temptation to believe such lies. But I would rather God get all the glory of a successful victory of a daughter getting through a horrible tragedy than for Satan to have a victory of breaking off a beautiful relationship between a Father (God) and a daughter (me).

So, here I find myself in India. Struggling to get through each day. Trying to truly believing all the above stuff that I had been wrestling to the ground. And here is where I had a break through... nothing really like an epiphany or anything, but a glimpse of the beautiful God that we serve. Like I said at the beginning my prayer was simple... a prayer to be used to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to earth...

A few days prior to this day I had had a dream that I shared the gospel with my babies at the orphanage (I like to call them my babies, because I have grown to love them all deeply, as if they were my own children). Shortly after this dream we had decided as a team to use our last week with our kids at the orphanage to teach them the gospel, the Holy Spirit, and their sonship and daughtership with God. And I think partially because I had had that dream I asked if I could share the gospel with the Kids on Monday August 25^th. And of course my team had no objection so I began to prepare what I was going to share with kids ranging from the ages of 5-14 years old.

On our drive to the orphanage I was not prepared for what was about to happen. I knew that these kids had probably heard the gospel prior to our serving time with them because the orphanage is sponsored by a Baptist church. But as I thought about the parable of the sower I realized that many of these kids more than likely had not had the gospel plant roots in their lives. I myself was 12 years old when I finally became a daughter of God. I had heard the gospel multiple times prior but it was a stirring of the Spirit that Day that made me finally grasp what it meant to become a follower of God.

As I stood up to speak the only truth that I can really claim with 100% assurance, I felt a peace come over me. I knew that at that moment that God was going to use me and was going to speak through me to these kids and that the day was gonna be a day that the kingdom of God was added to.

What I shared with the kids was simple. I showed them that all of us our sinners and that that sin separates us from God. I showed them that without Jesus we have no way to be with God. And I explained to them that all they had to do was to repent, believe and have faith in who Jesus said he was, and to believe that he was the only way to be with God forever. Of course there were lots of verses shared and more said but that would be the short condensed version of what the Lord spoke to me to share with the kids.

After I spoke we had all the kids close their eyes, and I asked them if any of them wanted to become apart of Gods family, and to make the most important decision of their life. About 8 kids and 1 adult raised their hands, so we told the kids to stand up and go out the door and we would talk to them outside. As the few kids got up, others joined them, and we ended up having about 20 kids and 1 adult head to the back. We had the kids who stayed sitting do a craft and myself and 2 of my other team mates (Sarah and Robby) headed to go talk to the kids outside.

I explained to them that what they were doing today was so exciting and that today they would be added to God's kingdom and would become sons and daughters of God. We didn't have them say a corporate prayer because we really felt like this was an individual decision that they had to make themselves. So we explained to them again about repenting and asking for forgiveness, and about faith and believing who Jesus is. We had a time of prayer for about 2 or 3 minute and when everyone was done praying you could see Christ is their eyes. It's so hard to explain to you what I saw in front of me. A transformation had taken place within those few minutes. I no longer was looking into the eyes of children without a father, but now looked into the eyes of 20 something kids who were now daughters and sons of the most high king.

The joy of the Lord was all over us! Smiles were all over the kids faces, and everyone's eyes were blazing with a new since of life. So, we did a shout of joy together! We jumped up and down and let a joyous yell proceed from our mouths! Haha... it was such a beautiful moment...

After our shouts of joy, we talked about baptism being a step of obedience that they would all need to make a decision about it eventually (policy at the orphanage is for the kids to get baptized at 15).

So, there you go. That's the story of how God heard the prayer of a daughter (me) to be used to bring the kingdom, and how that same God made it happen!

Back on the Race... In love with an orphanage... and a little girl named Preeta

I have fallen in love with orphans. It's true I must confess. I love them, and I want to hold them, and play with them, and let them know that they are loved. I want them to know what it means to be a follower of Christ, and I want them to know that they are sons and daughters of the most High King. Here in India we are working with an orphanage that has 105 children. It's run by 6 or 7 believers and the kids have a partially strict schedule (which I totally love because I am a very structured person). School, play time, lunch, Prayer Time, free time, Study time, dinner time prayer time and then bedtime. The ages of the children range between 5-14. Our group of about 9 people are teaching the Kids the Fruit Spirit for the next 9 days. Today we taught on Love. Told the Story of Jonathan and David and then explained what it means to show love to your friends. Then we played this great game with the kids where we broke them into 4 groups and gave each group a puzzle (that we had made out of construction paper) and had a contest of who could figure out the puzzle the fastest. Each puzzle was a heart, and within each heart there was a verse talking about love. The kids LOVED it! Then we taped them up on the wall.

Anyways, the more time I spend with these kids the more I wish I could just disciple each one of them, and teach them what it looks like to be passionately in love with Jesus. Did I mention that most of the kids speak some English? Which is a change, because everywhere we have been in the past the children have not. So, we are actually able to have somewhat of a conversation with these kids, rather than acting out everything with our hands. Its funny though, cause you find yourself talking in broken English, which for whatever reason seems to be better understood than just normal English.

The below picture is of my girl Preeta. I call her mine because every time I show up at the orphanage she runs to me and yells "Rachel Auntie" and we throw our arms around one another. She is 9 years old and has lived at the orphanage for 3 years. When I asked her what was her favorite part about living there she simply said, "Everything". If only I could look at life through the eyes of an orphan...

James 1:27, "Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world"

Only a couple of verses before this amazing verse there is a great thing said... Vs. 22 "But be doers of the word, and not just hearers only, deceiving yourselves." Vs. 25 "But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing."

When you know that the Word says go help the orphans and the widows, and you know that the Word says be doers of the word not just hearers.... Guess what? You should probably get up and go do something.

I can't believe that it is time for me to head back out to the Race. I've been home for about 6 weeks, soaking in time with family and friends. Tomorrow is the beginning of my traveling to India with my team coaches, Michael and Kathy My journey begins at 9am when my mom and my brother Aaron and myself head out of Kentucky and drive to Detroit. Then I head off to Amsterdam on a 7 hour and 50 min flight. Then we have a 5 hour lay over and conclude our traveling with a 8 hour and 10 min flight to New Delhi, India. We should arrive at 10:50pm on the 29^th of July. The time difference is 9 and hours so that will be interesting (hahaha). Anyways I would appreciate the prayers during re-entry.

A quick update on support. I am just $1,400.00 short of my goal of $13,800.00. It's crazy to think that The Lord has almost brought all the money in for this journey.

i have exciting news and an update on my life...

My time at home has been hard, but b/c of my loving Heavenly Father it has only made me rely on Him more. I just wanted to give a little short update on what I have been doing. Its hard to go from being around kids everyday to not seeing them at all, but I've done what I can to find time to be around kids. I have been helping out with a homeless ministry in down town covington Ky, AND LOVE IT. I am drawn to the kids as soon as I see them... I just love them tremendously and want them to know how much they are loved by Jesus through me. I also finally made it to church this past Sunday... its something I have been putting off, b/c my arrival back in the states was supposed to be in November not July, and i really didnt feel like explaining to everyone how i was doing, and answer a bunch of questions, but the LORD IS SO GOOD... My church family is so supportive and I love them, and appreciate them greatly! In the mean time while I am home I have been spending time with my mom (she's amazing), with friends, and with the Lord of course. I recently developed a love for cutting the grass, and it has become a weekly occurence. I'm working out every morning with a friend, and trying to find things to do with my free time. I will be leading the Pulse (my college ministry at home), in worship on the 20th, and am greatly looking forward to worshiping.

My great news is that i officially have a ticket to India!!!! I depart on the 27 from Detroit and arrive in India on the 28th. I will be flying with my amazing coaches, and honestly CANT WAIT TO RETURN TO MY TEAM!

I am still in need of $1,955.00 to finish the race, but some other great news is that my plane ticket back home from africa was covered by my travelers insurance so i dont have to raise extra money!

So it's been about 3 week since my dad passed away. To be honest, it's been really hard... dealing with the death of my father and re-entry into the United states has been ridiculous. But thank the Lord that i have a massive amount of people praying for me! I know that without the prayer i would not being doing so well. I just thought i would give everyone an update on what my plans are. Its been hard to make a decision about whether i should go back on the race or not... And i've had a lot of stress on myself in the decision making... But the conclusion that the Lord has brought me too... is that he is not done using me around the World. And if i learned anything thus far this year, its that God blesses his children who are obedient. So, i will be returning to the race towards the end of July. I will hopefully be meeting up with my team in India in less than a month. This brings me great joy because i miss my team so much, but also brings much saddness as i will be leaving my mother for another 4 months. So i would appreciate the prayers for courage to continue on in Obedience to my Father, and to not turn from Him.

I also am still in need of $2,005.00 to finish the race through November. Almost completely supported... how about that... God is so good. He pretty much Rocks!

I thought i would inform all my supporters and friends, that my father passed away last monday... my team and i were in the middle of the bush in mozambique when it happened so i wasnt informed until 2 days after when we had cell phone service. I traveled for over 50 hours the past 3 days, and made it home yesterday at 5:30... I was blessed to be accompanied by Rusty Jackson (our squad leader)... The visitation was last night and i was exhausted not havent slept for the previous 50 hours... I just want to thank everyone for their prayers... and thank the AIM staff so much for getting me home asap... i dont really know how to tell you how much i appreicate everything... Today is the funeral at 3:30... i would appreciate the prayers b/c i have been led by the lord to share at the funeral... Things are really hard... but my family is resting in the Faithfulness of our Heavenly Father... i love you all...

Worship/ Support/ Fun in Swaziland

Well, this is probably the last blog that I will be able to put up for the next month. My team leaves Friday, May 30^th for Mozambique Mutarara, Mozambique to be exact. We will be traveling 3-4 days to get to our final destination our transportation will include: van, bus, bicycle, walking shoes, and who knows what else. We are not exactly sure what we will be doing (which is not a big deal b/c the Lord always leads us to exactly what he wants us to do) all I know is that construction on an orphanage might be something we help out with. You can be praying for our team of 6 as we will be traveling over the next couple of days transportation isn't the most reliable, so pray for patience on our part and no break down of vehicles. You can also pray that our team stays healthy, that we constantly are listening to the Lord, and that we portray Christ to every person that we come in contact with this month. Pray that the Lord will see our obedience and will reign down blessings on all of those around us. Pray also that we as a team continue to learn servanthood, humility, and laying aside the things that we think we are entitled to.

We have spent the last week together with our team coaches here in Swaziland. I've decided that I love living in community. All 27 of us racers were debriefing this past week, living in one house, sharing 3 bathrooms, cooking dinner each night together, worshiping every other night together, catching up on our past month that we had spent apart, praying together, drinking coffee together, washing dishes together I truly have fallen in love with my family here. I guess if personal space is a must have for people, than the world race is probably not your cup of tea. Me, personally, I love the accountability that comes with living so close together. There is always someone to laugh with, cry with, vent to, or just to talk to. We all sharpen one another if we see a brother or sister going down the wrong path, or picking up a bad attitude, or removing themselves from the group, we call them out. It's not always the most fun thing to be told that you are in the wrong, and really you can choose whether or not to grow from the experience or get bitter about the experience. But what I have learned is that choosing to grow from the experience is a much better road to go down than to become bitter.

I know its not always fun to talk about money, but its something I have to bring up in my blog in order to finish the race I'M SO CLOSE TO BEING SUPPORTED I am still in need of $3,300.00. I've broken it down like this. If I can get 10 families or individuals to support me for 66 dollars a month for the next 5 months, THEN I WILL HAVE REACHED MY GOAL OF $13,800.00. That's about 2 dollars a day When it's broken down like that, it's not such a huge amount. I cannot begin to express the appreciation that I have for all of my supporters your money is being used to bring down God's kingdom on earth THAT'S AMAZING! I also appreciate all of my prayer warriors out there I know that the Lord is hearing your prayers! Keep praying hard!

It's so good to be back with yall. For the past month I have been doing ministry in Nsoko, Swaziland (located in Southern Africa). My team, Kaleo (a.k.a. RJAPAN), joined up with Pastor Gift who works for an organization called G-42. For the month we actually lived on an African Safari called Nisela. Each of us snuggled in our little homes (our wonderful tents) each night and fell asleep to the sound of Lucky the Lion who was at most 50 ft from our tents (Behind a fence of course). Our ministry consisted of loving on kids and orphans, building relationships with the people at the Safari, VBS, and putting together an identification system for each of the children that our under G-42's care. We definitely fell in love with everyone we met in Swaziland. Our hearts broke for the people of Swazi when we found out that 1/3 of children are without parents (mostly due to the AIDS Epidemic), and that about 42.6% of the Swazi population at the end of 2004 had HIV or AIDS. It is said that in 2025 if something is not done about the AIDS Epidemic, there will be no more Swazi population.

What can 6 people do for a month in Swazi and make a difference? That was the question that I kept asking myself as we were serving this past month. And I think the conclusion that I came to is that we are not in charge of changing Swaziland. Our purpose in this life is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Part of glorifying God is being obedient to him, and that means sharing his Gospel, His Son, all around the World, taking care of the orphans and the widows all around the world, and living like Jesus all around the world. Our duty is not to change people, but to be God's instrument in relaying his amazing message. God's the one in charge of the changing; we are the ones in charge of obedience. So although we might not have seen a revival while we were here in Swaziland, we were obedient to the Lord and therefore can rejoice that the Lord will take care of the rest.

Support Update: I currently need $3,304.00 to finish the race. It's amazing to see how the Lord has put it on so many people's hearts to give to the kingdom... Im blown away by his goodness...

Hey friends and supporters... Just thought i would give yall a quick update... i am currently in South Africa!!! It is amazing here... we have been living in a camp ground sleeping in our tents... its been quite interesting... nice and cold during the night (it's their winter time)... anyways, tomorrow morning i head off to Swaziland, Africa.... PRAY PRAY PRAY... we will be working with an orphanage... not sure all the details, but that's part of the fun. I currently am still in need of 3,769 dollars, but, not worries, the LORD IS PROVIDING... cause he's so awesome like that. I love yall, and look forward to writing to yall about the amazing things that happen over the next month (i will be without internet for an entire month)... Pray for the Kingdom of God to GROW!!!!!
